Early Life and Education
Piyush Mishra was born on 13 January 1963 and spent his formative years in Gwalior. From childhood, he showed an interest in creative activities including painting, music and acting. His artistic inclination eventually led him toward formal training in theatre and acting.

He studied at Carmel Convent School in Gwalior and later pursued his passion for the performing arts at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. He graduated from NSD in 1986, receiving professional training that became the foundation of his career as an actor, playwright and theatre director. After graduating from NSD, Mishra began his professional theatre career in Delhi. He became associated with the Act One theatre group and worked alongside several prominent theatre artists. During this period, he wrote and directed plays and developed a reputation for combining powerful writing with intense stage performances.

Mishra later joined the Asmita Theatre Group and became known for performances including his work in Court Martial and Operation Three Star. Mishra's work as a writer became another major part of his career. He wrote dialogues for The Legend of Bhagat Singh, drawing partly on his acclaimed theatre work Gagan Damama Bajiyo. In recent years, Mishra has continued to work across acting, writing, music and live performance. His 2026 film work includes Rahu Ketu, while his broader artistic career continues to connect cinema with theatre, poetry and music.
