Sitaare Zameen Par (lit. Stars on Earth) is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language sports comedy-drama directed by R. S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Serving as a spiritual successor to Aamir Khan’s 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, the movie stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles.
An official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions, the story follows a suspended basketball coach assigned to community service, where he trains a spirited team of players with disabilities for a big tournament—leading to a heartwarming journey of transformation, inclusion, and unlikely victories.
The original Spanish film Champions (2018) was inspired by the real-life Aderes basketball team from Burjassot, in the province of Valencia. This team, composed of individuals with intellectual disabilities, achieved remarkable success by winning twelve Spanish championships between 1999 and 2014.
The story also draws inspiration from the life of American basketball coach Ron Jones, who, in the 1980s, was convicted of driving under the influence and sentenced to perform community service by coaching a basketball team of intellectually disabled players. Jones later chronicled his journey in the 1990 book B-Ball: The Team That Never Lost a Game, which was adapted into the 1991 TV film One Special Victory, directed by Stuart Cooper. |
